Meditaciones en una emergencia

In an emergency time accelerates and you must act quickly. But if the consequences are going to be unavoidable, the event can open the way to a stunned state. In contrast to this, meditation involves a decrease in the revolutions of thoughts and emotions. This project explores the need for a break and introspection during or after these convulsive situations.

In addition, emergency is also a process of emergence. When the stimuli are intense something must mutate or be molded in the subject as part of the process of overcoming or adaptating. In these pictures the meditations are materialized in several positions before irremediable events such as variations from a survival guide.

Developed in minimal spaces the unique expression in the meditations are the color and lighting giving prominence to the altered body, which almost permeates the environment in different occasions. These environments encourage serenity but in the portrayed bodies you can glimpse the tension, the struggle between calm and balance and the discomfort of maintaning certain positions.

In these scenes parts of the body are omitted, they mix and are observed from forced angles. An invitation to stop and observe to find out what’s true, what’s manipulated and where the to find the limit between both. Surrealist compositions that seem to work with an innate intention of balance and relief. In times of excess the search for minimalism leads to an explicit sharing of confusion with the viewer. The fact that these body combinations begin with different photographs with real postures and real viewpoints, supposes a reflection about the limits of subjectivity. By observing and analyzing a body from different points of view and gathering all the material for digital assembly, It’s difficult not to find a relationship between different contours and volumes. The body itself seems to dictate where to connect the elements during the process.

The project’s title is taken from the work of the poet Frank O’Hara, who through a series of poems, meditates on the daily fixations and defeats at that time defined by anxiety.
