Puppets for adults: Faust
Almost two hundred and fifty years after the birth of its author, Faust remains a classic, because it raises the problem of limits and the meaning of human action, and it does so under the parable of the covenant with the devil. Is the pact worth it? What justifies it? Is the devil a reality separate from man or is it our other self? Is it the obstacle to our plans or is it the one that provides us with the drive to consummate them? Has the Evil own and independent reality as a counterpart of the Good, or is it nothing more than the absence or the non-fulfillment of this? The work maintains its validity today because, through these questions peculiar to human condition, it revives the restlessness in a time that tries to feel alien to them.
Álvaro Ortega presents a minimalist version of this classic with finger puppets on a table with everything in sight, without a stage box. Plain puppets, as his grandparents did.
